Xero: bring payroll and the accounting view together

For businesses using Xero, payroll becomes more useful when the pay run and the accounting reconciliation tell the same story.

Where it adds value

Xero’s Australian payroll offering supports payroll administration including STP reporting, superannuation, PAYG and leave. Payroll sits alongside accounting functionality, making the connection between employee payments and financial records important.

The business benefit

Finance can reconcile wages, payroll liabilities and bank payments within a familiar accounting environment. A clear process helps explain why the payroll total differs from a bank payment or why a liability remains outstanding.

Choose the right fit

Check the current plan’s employee capacity and feature availability. Assess the business’s award complexity, time-capture requirements, entity structure and reporting needs before deciding whether the configuration is suitable. A software subscription alone does not establish the correct payroll treatment.

A practical example

After a pay run, reconcile the payroll journal to the pay report and the bank payment. Separately review unpaid PAYG and super balances. Investigate timing differences rather than clearing them through unexplained journal entries.

How SESAY can help

SESAY can support payroll workflows, journal mapping, balance reconciliations and exception reporting. Where Xero is the accounting destination for another payroll system, we can focus on the interface and reconciliation rather than assume Xero is calculating the pay.
